Women’s History Month originated in California in 1978, and the Women’s History Month Film Series focuses on working women who have been left out of the conversation. The films to be shown/discussed honor women workers and emphasize their achievements in fighting for justice and equity and exposing inequality in the workplace.

Invisible Warriors is a documentary film about the Black women who were part of the 600,000 women who left their homes to work in war industries during World War II. This historically faithful movie is a good example of the complexity of the Rosie the Riveter image.

Hidden Figures is a 2016 feature film about the work of three brilliant African-American women who worked behind the scene at NASA to launch the first operations in outer space and who were never recognized or rewarded for their vital contribution to this effort.

Made in Dagenham depicts the 1968 strike at the Ford Motors plant in Dagenham, England, which propelled the female workers on the production line to action against sexual discrimination. In the process, they showed how they could out-strategize the male managers and union officials.

American Violet is the story of a young Black woman working in a small Texas town who, with no history or possession of drugs, gets swept up in a drug raid and thrown in jail. Despite monumental odds, she decides to fight her incarceration on felony charges.
