The Western Sharpshooters
This is the story of one of the most unique, prolific, and unheralded units of the civil war. Operating in the western theater under the commands of both Grant and Sherman, the western sharpshooters acquired a notoriety both for their deadly expertise and off-field swagger. We will examine the military exploits, military prowess, and the psychological internalization of belonging to an elite unit in the western theater of the civil war. Come learn about the 66th Illinois Infantry.
