Health Center Activity Director Course (Online Course)

This course discusses the philosophy and development of therapeutic recreation programs for nursing home residents and the regulations effecting the activity profession. The physical, social, and emotional needs of the elderly and the relationship of the individual and leisure interests will be explored. A 90-hour supervised practicum experience is required. Students successfully completing the course will meet the requirements to be employed as an activity director in the State of Indiana. This course is approved by the Indiana Department of Health. The course follows the guidelines of the new National Certification Council of Activity Professionals (NCCAP) Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals (MEPAP) Part 1, 2nd Edition Course Standards. A certificate recognized by the Indiana State Department of Health will be issued upon successful completion of the course and may be used by the student wishing to pursue nationally recognized certification through the National Certification Council of Activity Professionals. NOTE: This course will be taught on-line. Students must have access to a computer with Microsoft Office to participate and complete assignments. Registrants will be given an identification number and password to begin accessing their on-line class. A high school diploma or GED equivalent is the academic requirement for this course. This class will be asynchronous; a new session begins the first Monday of every month.
