This course is the second of the three-part The Hillerman Touch series that will take a look at the multi-generational contributions of the Hillerman family to the historical fiction genre of the Southwest. Tony Hillerman began the tradition which has been continued by his daughter, Anne Hillerman. It is a tradition that has provided entertainment and excitement for readers, and more recently television viewers, with an interest in the enduring culture of Navajo Indians in the modern world where diversity and inclusion challenges are faced amid the colorful and often challenging natural conditions of the Southwest. This class will revolve around the television series, Dark Winds, which is based, in part, on Tony Hillerman’s Listening Woman. Students will be responsible for purchasing and reading their own copy of Listening Woman. The class sessions will involve a discussion of the book as well as a viewing of the first episode of Season 1 of Dark Winds.
