Juneteenth & Emancipation Day
with
Dr. Crystal Reynolds
June 12*
On June 17, 2021, President Biden declared June 19, Juneteenth, a National Holiday, but many people are unaware of the importance of this holiday. In this eye-opening presentation, retired ISU instructor and local historian, Dr. Crystal Mikell Reynolds, will examine Juneteenth and its historical connection with Emancipation Day. Dr. Reynolds will also describe the important role Terre Haute played in our national celebration of freedom, the role the abolitionist, Frederick Douglass, played in local freedom celebrations, and the current trends in freedom celebrations. A commemorative gift will be given to the first 30 people in the door.
