Place: ISU Cunningham Memorial Library Room 028

While there have never been more ways to reach an audience, it has also never been more difficult to hold their attention. People today are far more connected to stories and information than ever, but long-form narrative and conventional journalism now share the stage with messages of 140 characters. By focusing on the content of stories and their impact on contemporary audiences, digital storytelling is becoming an arena for exploring new story structures based on digital technology such as virtual reality, object-based audio, and story exploration games. By investigating principles of storytelling across digital media formats, students will learn different techniques for creating projects by analyzing contemporary theories in storytelling. Topics will include story structure, digital narrative, electronic literature, hypertext fiction, interactive storytelling, and transmedia storytelling in journalism.

Fee: $5.00
