Evolutionary Medicine: A Different Perspective on Health & Disease
With Ella L. Ingram, Associate Dean for Professional
Development & Professor, Biology & Biomedical Engineering

Date: Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Time: 1:30 - 3 PM
Place: ISU, Chestnut Building Room 107
Cost: Free

People are inherently interested in how their bodies work and don’t work, as demonstrated by the popularity of everything from The Doctors to Prevention Magazine to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Using an evolutionary medicine lens, one can ask new questions about disease, symptoms, anatomy, and more. Why is back pain so common? Does it make sense to feed a cold and starve a fever? Is cancer inevitable? These questions focus on the human condition, not a specific human condition. We’ll explore the key principles of evolutionary medicine through
familiar examples and current news. This presentation is for informational purposes only; it is not intended to diagnose disease nor recommend a course of action for a specific situation.
