The first lecture in this series will introduce the devel-opment of abstraction in art and discuss different cate-gories of abstraction as it developed through history. The talk will focus on abstractions blossoming within painting and sculpture from the early 1900s through the 1970s. It will focus on the historical and political occurrences that coincided with abstraction's move-ment through history.
The second lecture will focus on how the goals and concerns of abstract artists radically changed after the 1960s. The participants will be provided with examples of artistic production from the 1970s through the present: Focusing on the underlining philosophical and political trends that affected and resulted in our current understanding of abstraction in art and culture
