In the United States, 54 million Americans are formally identified as permanently disabled, while estimates project that 1 in 4 Americans possess a significant disability. This number is growing exponentially as our country’s population continues to increase in median age. Unfor-tunately, advancement in medical and assistive technologies have not kept up with this aggres-sive growth in the disabled population. This presentation seeks to understand the past, present, and conjecture on the future of assistive technologies. We will ex-plore the needs of current (and emerging) demographics that identify as disabled, and how cutting-edge technology is being adapted to address these unique needs.
