Are the US and China headed into a new Cold War? It certainly looks like it as their political, economic, and security interests increasingly appear to be at odds with each other’s interests. And yet Sino-American tensions are rising in a global situation that is very different from the one that existed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This presentation will consider the major tensions that exist between the US and China today, as well as the areas of common interests between the two countries that will require them to cooperate at least to some extent. It will also compare the situation today with the one that existed between the US and the USSR during the Cold War.
