Over the last decade there have been many advances in the use of medical technology directed toward the consumer. In this session we aim to discuss the emerging technology for improving personal health and to present an analysis of new resources and methods to improve health outcomes.

The advances that were once only available in urban US hospitals are now becoming more accessible to the rural population. The rapid pace of these advances in personal health technology have created a new paradigm shift wherein these resources can be accessed by virtually all people regardless of previous income-based barriers. In other words, it is no longer unaffordable to the average person to access technology to improve their personal health but rather has become a matter of seeking new information and applying that knowledge through personal efforts toward improving health.

In summation, the technologies adopted over the past decade are more accessible to the overall population and this has the potential to greatly benefit personal and public health. The presentation will provide an overview of new resources available to improve personal health. Topics will include wearable technology, mobile apps for personal health, breakthroughs in at-home monitoring technology as well as tips on how to securely share your health data with health professionals.
