Substance Use

37% of the US population struggles with illicit drug use and 12% struggle with both alcohol and drug use. In addition, each year, 16 million Americans abuse prescription drugs. Substance use disorder remains an enormous public health concern. In this presentation the speaker will review the most current and effective treatments for people struggling with substance use disorder including, but not limited to, medications that are safe and effective. Whether you have experienced addiction yourself or know someone who is currently struggling, this presentation will provide the most updated treatments available. In addition, a demonstration of Naloxone "Narcan" will be provided. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose from opioids-including heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications.
