Cancer Screening aims to detect cancer before symptoms appear. This may involve blood tests, urine tests, DNA tests, other tests or medical imaging... The benefits of the screening in terms of cancer prevention is that of early detection and subsequent treatment. Screening can help identify cancer at an early stage. Cancer screening has risks and should only be done by a medical professional.
Cancer screening tests are designed to find cancers at an early stage when they are more treatable. Some cancer screening tests have been found to lower the death rate (mortality rate) from certain cancers. Examples of some common cancer screening tests that are known to lower cancer death rates include colonoscopy for colon cancer, and mammography for breast cancer.
Like going to the dentist or changing the oil in your car, cancer screening should be a regular part of your life. Screening tests are used before a person has any symptoms to help find cancer early, when it may be easier to treat.
