Dr. Aaron Gooley, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology and a beekeeper, will discuss his ongoing research regarding the association between honey bee nutritional status and exposure to insecticides. Along with Dr. Zuyi Gooley, they plan on investigating apiaries in Indiana and surrounding areas to improve the basic understanding of how diet relates to colony health. They hope their research can improve management practices for bees and show that pesticide exposure may alter the bee’s fatty acid composition which affects their functional activity and metabolism.
