The first drive-in movie theater opened in 1933 and quickly became an icon of American culture. The popularity of drive-in theaters grew after World War II and became a favorite pastime for teenagers, couples, and families alike. By the 1970s, drive-in movie theaters started seeing a decline for several reasons. In fact, there are fewer than 300 drive-ins across the U.S., so we a very fortunate to have one in operation in Terre Haute. Join Brent Barnhart, owner of KJB Theaters, as he discusses the history of drive-in movie theaters and what it’s like to own and operate the Moon-Lite Drive-in (Terre Haute) and Starlite Drive-In (Bloomington).
