Hundreds of women have toiled at back-breaking jobs with very little or no pay, often vilified and physically abused, almost always with no appreciation or recognition. They all deserve a prominent place in every history book written about the economic miracle of American capitalism. Instead, they are forgotten, overlooked, their contributions disregarded or denigrated. One month is clearly not enough to give honor to these heroes of labor, but it is at least one time to focus on who they were and what they did. And no group of women have earned it more than women of color. It is time to recount and celebrate their work. This class will study their lives and their achievements on behalf of all working women in the context of the historical and economic developments of the country and the scourge of racism.

Women in discussion:
Lucy Parson
Velma Hopkins
Dorothy Lee Bolden

Fee: $20.00
