The Educational Heritage Association, Inc. of Vigo County was founded 20 years ago by Alice Reck. She was an elementary school librarian/media specialist and then the director of VCSC's Instructional Materials Center. Alice was aware that lots of memorabilia from all Vigo County Schools was being thrown away, and she wanted to create a place that would house these once-treasured items from years past.
EHA's mission is to collect, preserve & store memorabilia from all Vigo County Schools. High school reunion groups enjoy visiting to choose which memorabilia to borrow (for free) to display at their school's celebration. Several visitors use EHA's large collection of documents, photos and yearbooks to do research for their own projects. Other visitors come to reminisce about their favorite memories & events from their high school years. Museum volunteers have learned a lot about local schools from visitors sharing their memories! Some visitors also bring school memorabilia to donate to EHA's collection.
