In 1897, Paul Dresser wrote our state song, “On the Banks of the Wabash” with the lyrics “Oh the moonlight’s fair tonight along the Wabash, through the fields there comes the breath of new mown hay”. For generations, residents of Vigo County and Terre Haute have had dreams about developing the Wabash River as it flows southward through the county. 125 years after Dresser wrote those words, many of those dreams are becoming a reality thanks to the efforts of visionaries involved in a group called RiverSCAPE.
Gerri Varner and Michael Shaw, president of the board of RiverSCAPE will be sharing with you the exciting work of a group who share a positive view of the future of our community, who believe our “field of dreams” will become a reality and that, indeed, “if we build it, they will come.” Please join us as we discuss good things that are happening on the Wabash River in 2023 and for years to come. You might walk out singing, “What a Little Moonlight Can Do.”
