Rose-Hulman Professor Terrence Casey discusses Forging the Iron Lady: Margaret Thatcher, the 1970s, and the Origins of Neoliberalism, his book detailing the rise of the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. It is both a personal and a collective tale exploring how an uncertain chain of events opened the political space to certain outcomes while throwing up barriers to others. It examines how the tumultuous politics of 1970s Britain shaped her
politics and created conditions for major politicaleconomic change. Better understanding the political conditions for major change in the past also offers insight into the potential for political and economic renewal in the present.
