This course is the first of a three-part series, The Hillerman Touch. This series will take a look at the multiple-generation contributions of the Hillerman family to the historical fiction genre of the Southwest. Tony Hillerman began the tradition which has been continued by his daughter, Anne Hillerman. It is a tradition that has provided entertainment and excitement for readers, and more recently television viewers, with an interest in the enduring culture of Navajo Indians in the modern world where diversity and inclusion challenges are faced amid the colorful and often challenging natural conditions of the Southwest. This first class in the series will revolve around Anne Hillerman’s latest book, Lost Birds, and students will be responsible for purchasing and reading their own copy of the book. Participants will enjoy a Zoom presentation by Anne Hillerman and a discussion of Lost Birds.
