OLLI members will visit one of the State’s most modern sawmills and highly efficient field timber harvesting site in
Parke County. The Baird Sawmill began as a down-home pallet producer and branched into the log cabin production business and finally into a major supplier of industrial lumber and furniture grade lumber. Owner Mike Baird and his crews will discuss and demonstrate the uniqueness of the equipment installed during February and March 2022, making his operation one of the most modern, high efficiency operations using strict environmentally-sound and sustainability-friendly practices in the State.
After our tour we will have lunch at the newly renovated restaurant, The Ranch, operated by Baird’s wife on Highway 36 across from the entry to Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area.
