Join ISU Professor of Political Science Dr. Linda Maule as she embarks on a thought-provoking journey through the realms of utopia and dystopia. "Utopia and Dystopia" delves into the ideals of perfect societies and the harrowing visions of nightmarish futures. Through a rich tapestry of texts, poems, lyrics, streaming series, films, and documentaries, students will explore the human quest for an ideal world and the cautionary tales that warn of potential downfalls. Students will analyze the intricate dynamics between idealism and reality and engage in lively discussions, critical analyses, and creative projects that challenge them to consider the possibility of such places existing in the world today. Those who are fans of speculative fiction, curious philosophers, or keen observers of society will find this course offers a comprehensive and engaging exploration of the utopian dreams and dystopian fears that shape the modern cultural and societal landscapes.
