Have you ever played a game and wondered “Who came up with this?” or “Where did this come from?” This short course will explore the long history of games, how games can be used as a window into the past, and even how they might develop in the future. Students will have hands-on experience with historical games that are over 4000 years old and explore the hidden history behind some of the games that are still common today, like Monopoly and Risk. By the end of the course, students will see just how valuable games can be as a way to study, explore, and make sense of the shared human past.
