Dr. John McIntyre explores the fascinating history of Gregorian chant and its influence on Western music. The course traces the development of chant traditions from their ancient roots, through the role of Pope Gregory and beyond. Dr. McIntyre explores how these chant traditions shaped liturgical music, while also examining related repertoires such as Old-Roman and Ambrosian chant. Participants will learn how chant evolved across regions and centuries, shaping musical notation, worship practices, and cultural identity. Through historical narrative and
musical examples, the course reveals how these sacred melodies continue to inspire both musicians and listeners, offering insight into the spiritual, artistic, and cultural foundations of Western music
