This course exploresthe evolution of presidential speechwriting, from the earliest writers in George Washington’s administration to the professionals of today. The class examines the methods used by presidents across history and reviews original speechwriting drafts from FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter, and George H.W. Bush. Video and audio clips feature historic speeches and insights from former White House speechwriters on their creative process.
