Supporting and Working with Transgendered Youth

The purpose of this session is to provide the participant with knowledge and specific strategies they can employ to support transgender and gender diverse students in schools, optimizing their potential for success academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. Areas to be addressed include systems-level strategies and individual support plans that can be developed to best meet the diverse needs of this population of youth. Participants will also gain insight into how they can advocate for transgender and gender diverse youth and their families as well as access to tools to help them in their practice. Learning will be supported through direct instruction, large- and small-group work, and resources that can be employed to facilitate these processes.
