Indiana’s Lumber & Timber Industry Today
With Jeremiah Lemmons, District Forester

Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2022
Time: 1:30 - 3 PM
Place: Westminster Village
1120 E. Davis Drive, Terre Haute
Cost: Free

OLLI members will examine the status and economic importance of the timber and lumber industry in Indiana. Indiana’s lumber and timber industry exceeds the economy of the state’s corn and soybean industries combined. We will also learn the role of the District Forester in supporting the industry and landowners who supply the standing timber to the industry. Learn about the challenges of the spread of invasive species on lands from which timber has been harvested. The fight to establish renewable growth of desirable species in competition with the spread of invasives once the canopy of harvested species is gone is a never-ending battle.

This presentation is a prelude to two OLLI field trips to visit state-of-the-art harvesting and processing operations in Parke County and Putnam County (see Special Events for details).

Notes:

OLLI at Indiana State University’s Wednesday Presentations will be back at Westminster Village for summer 2022. Therefore, we will no longer be live streaming these presentations on Zoom. They will be recorded and those recordings will be available upon request. Individuals attending these presentations are required to follow Westminster Village guidelines. Please arrive early so that you can check in at the main desk before attending the OLLI Program.
