Our Place in the Universe
With Holly Hudson

Dates: Tuesdays, October 15, 22, 29
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Place: ISU Cunningham Memorial Library
Room 028
Cost: $20

Retired teacher and local eclipse guru, Holly Hudson, will present this three-week course in which students should be prepared to make their brains hurt and to look at the night sky with a renewed sense of awe and wonder, at times feeling small and insignificant as well as rare and special. This class is for those who have not thought about space since they left school as well as those who love space. Delving into the lighter side of astronomy—this is not an astrophysics class—there will be no calculations or mind-boggling physics. Week one explores the following questions: What is the Universe? How big is it? How do people know what it is made of when much of it cannot be seen? Week two explores the solar system and examines the growing number of exoplanets. How unique is Earth? Can the presence of life be detected without traveling to an object? Week three explores human space travel. Information about the Artemis program will be presented and the class will explore the difference between visiting and colonizing the moon, Mars, and beyond.

Fee: $20.00
