Time: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Cinematic depictions of war have been common since the invention of the movies. Steven Summers’ five-episode documentary War Movie examines the history of war in American cinema and how the movies have shaped the American perspective on foreign policy, race, masculinity, and national identity. It attempts to understand why society is compelled to experience its own violence on screen. The class will view and discuss the series, and the final session will feature a presentation by Director Steven Summers, who will travel to ISU from Chicago to discuss his work.
