With Dr. Donald Maxwell

Dates: Thursdays, April 10, 17 & 24
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Place: ISU Cunningham Memorial Library Room 028
Cost: $20

This course, led by Indiana State University History Professor Dr. Donald Maxwell, uses a microhistory approach to focus on one of the most turbulent years in modern history: 1968. Participants will explore the social, cultural, and political events that shaped both the United States and the world. Key topics include the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy, the 1968 presidential election, the Vietnam War and the antiwar movement, and the Civil Rights, Black Power, student, and women’s movements in the United States. Globally, the course examines protests in Communist Czechoslovakia and Poland, a general strike in France, protests that resulted in a government-led massacre of hundreds in Mexico City days before it hosted the Olympics, and pivotal events in France, Cuba, Nigeria, Spain, Haiti, the Middle East, and Germany.
