Since its publication in 1951, J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye has been celebrated, vilified, copied, and banned. Join Rose-Hulman Professor of American Literature Caroline Carvill as she dives into this iconic coming-of-age novel and the world of Holden Caulfield, a 16-year-old boy who is expelled from prep school and searches for meaning in the adult world. The class explores the novel’s cultural impact and its lasting influence on American literature. The Catcher in the Rye has shaped generations of readers and continues to resonate in today's society
